Also, some rings cannot be sized; in this case a special order will be necessary. If you live close to the Springfield OH area, you can take your ring to the Ridgewood Jewelers store for sizing. The first ring sizing is free, whether done at a store or before shipping. Please note that some rings, like channel set rings, can normally only be sized a half to whole size without damage to the settings. In cases like this, a special order will be needed.

What determines the price of a diamond?

Diamonds vary in value by the "Four Cs". That is its cut, clarity, color and carat weight. Cut is the shape of the diamond, like round or oval. Clarity is based on the number of imperfections in the diamond. Color is the hue the diamond shows, like colorless, white or yellow. Carat weight is how much the diamond weighs.

What is the difference between 24k, 18k, 14k, and 10k gold?

24K gold is 100% pure gold. 18K gold contains 75% pure gold. 14K gold contains 58.3% gold and 41.7% alloys. 10K gold contains 41.6% gold and 58.4% alloys. The higher the gold content the softer the metal. Therefore the most durable gold is 10k gold. At Ridgewood Jewelers, we cast in all karats of gold except pure gold, 24k. We do not cast platinum.

What is the difference between white gold and platinum?

Platinum is more rare and thus more valuable than white gold. White gold can come in different karats just like yellow gold. Pure gold, 24k, has a yellowish orange color. To make gold white, alloys have to be added to get rid of the yellow color.

What is the difference between natural and cultured pearls?

Natural pearls are formed by nature in the body of an oyster. They are very rare, and often have irregular shapes. Cultured pearls are formed when man introduces an irritant into the oyster's body. Ridgewood Jewelers sells only cultured pearls.
